On this day in Area Electric Softball History... 3 years ago

Three years ago, Area Electric had a coed softball team. We played 47 Bar and Grill that night and we were batting in the 4th inning. We had a runner on base and Ryan Scheib, one of our salespeople, was batting and gets called out on strikes on a pitch, “way outside the strike zone”, on the way back to our dugout, he was swearing at the umpire, because we got no calls that night. The next batter, Ivy Jenkins grounds into the inning ending double play and she was pissed off as well. I led off the next inning and was facing a 3-1 count and I thought the pitch was outside and it was called a strike and I say to myself, “how is that a strike”, I grounded out to second base. That’s how our night went, we got no calls in a 16-3 defeat in five innings.

We went a dismal 1-11 that season, losing our last two games by a combined score of 72-2, to the best team in the COED league.

It's All Star Game Time

It's time for the mid summer classic in Baseball. I usually get into this moment in sports. A few of my favorite mid-summer night moments are:

1994: Fred McGriff's game tying 2 run home run, after Craig Biggio grounded into the biggest fielders choice in ASG History. Moises Alou doubled home the winning run in the 10th Inning.

1995: after trailing 2-0, the National's used home runs from Mike Piazza, Craig Biggio and MVP Jeff Conine to win 3-2

2002: game ends in a tie after both teams use all pitchers

2007: American league wins thriller in San Francisco

2010: Brian McCann's bases clearing double leads National's to first victory since 1996

Time for some changes in the Nati

I say it is time for some changes in Cincinnati. The Reds have not looked good all season except for the beginning. I think that Volquez needs to take a hike, Stubbs needs to be on the bench or down at Triple A and they need to find some "consistency". I am a fan of shortstop Paul Janish, the guy plays super defense, but they do need some offense out of that position as well.

NBA and NFL, two of my favorite sports enduring work stoppages. Not Good

I dont like what I am hearing about the NBA going into a Lockout. I am hoping they will get that situation resolved soon.

As for the NFL, I hear that good things are coming. We may see an NFL season after all.
