On this day five years ago... Cowher resigns in Walk-Off Fashion

The Bengals played host to the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 31, 2006. It was supposed to be the day that the Bengals were to celebrate a 2nd straight season to the Playoffs, however that was not the case.

The Bengals missed a field goal in the final seconds of regulation and in the 3rd play of overtime, Rookie Wide Receiver Santonio Holmes made the Bengals pay, as Ben Roethlisberger connected with Holmes on a 67 yard Touchdown and the Steelers upset the Bengals 23-17 in the Regular Season Finale and Bill Cowher would resigned days later.

First Time since 1997

The Bengals will be playing host to the Baltimore Ravens in the Regular Season Finale for the first time since 1997. It was also the last game of Boomer Esiason's Career.

The Bengals won that game 16-14. Boomer's final pass was a 77 yard Touchdown Pass to Darnay Scott.

Congrats to the Bengals on a winning season

Who would have thought it. People were comparing the Bengals to the 2007 Miami Dolphins as the season began. Hence the Bengals only had one home game sold out thanks to the Steelers. This team has played outstanding this year. Andy Dalton has played lights out, the defense is playing at a high level. I think the Bengals will make it to the playoffs this year. I can sense it.

On this day in Bengals History

On December 24, 2005, The Cincinnati Bengals, who had clinched their first Division Championship in 15 years the previous week hosted the Buffalo Bills. The Bengals had a chance to tie the game late, but Buffalo Cornerback Terrance McGee had other ideas...

McGee had stunned the Paul Brown Stadium crowd with a Kickoff return for a Touchdown earlier. This time, he would clinch Buffalos Victory with a Interception returned for a Touchdown in a 37-27 Bills Victory.

The next season, the Bengals traveled to Denver to take on the Broncos. The Bengals trailed late and scored a touchdown to bring them to with in a point. But a botched snap on a extra point would seal the Bengals fate as the would fall to Denver 28-27 ending their hopes at making the postseason for the second straight year.
