20 years ago tonight... The Fab Five is going to the Final Four

On this night in 1992, The Ohio State Buckeyes took on the Michigan Wolverines. The Buckeyes were led by Jim Jackson, Lawerence Funderburke, Chris Jent, Mark Baker, Alex Brown.

The Wolverines were led by of course the Fab Five: Jalen Rose, Chris Webber, Juwan Howard, Ray Jackson and Jimmy King.

The game was a tight one. It would come down to a fina possession in Regulation. Chris Jent missed a baseline leaner that would have won it, but it missed as the game moved into overtime.

Michigan would prove to be too much in the extra frame. As the Wolverines outlasted the Buckeyes 76-72 and ended the College Careers of Jim Jackson, Chris Jent, Mark Baker and Alex Brown.

Its hard for me to believe...

It's hard for me to believe that US Bank Arena, formerly called Riverfront Coliseum, The Crown and The First Star Center, has not hosted a Men's NCAA Tournament Game in twenty years. With the success of Xavier University Basketball, that could very well bring the NCAA tournament back to the Queen City. In March of 1992, Riverfront Coliseum hosted the first and second round games of the NCAA Tournment. Ohio State, North Carolina, Alabama, UCONN and Miami University all played there. The second round featured games between North Carolina, led my Eric Montross, Hubert Davis, George Lynch and Alabama  In the other game, Ohio State would was led by Legend Jim Jackson, Chris Jent, Lawerence Funderburke, Mark Baker and the Buckeyes defeated UCONN by a significant margin. Yes, I remember the floor that was Red with white Cincinnati letters on the end lines on both ends of the court and it said Riverfront Coliseum in small black letters on both sides of the half court circle.

Kentucky used to play a home game a year from 1998-2008, a 10 year contract. The lone loss, Dayton 68-66 in 1999.

On this day in NCAA tournament history

On this day in 2007, Ohio State, which was led by Freshmen sensations: Mike Conley, Greg Oden, David Leighty and Dequan Cook, along with junior Jamar Butler and Senior Ron Lewis took on Xavier, which was led by Seniors Justin Doleman, Justin Cage, Juniors Josh Duncan, Stanley Burrell and Drew Lavender. The Musketeers led by 9 with less than 3 minutes to go. No lead was safe against the 2007 Buckeyes, who were playing their 4th game at Rupp Arena since the 1992 NCAA Tournament. The Buckeyes railed and trailed by 2 with 9 seconds left. Xavier senior Justin Cage made one of two free throws to set up Ron Lewis' game tying three.

Ohio State would go on to win in Overtime 78-71, ending the careers of Justin Doleman, Justin Cage and the Xavier career of backup point guard St. Xavier Grad Johnny Wolf.

Xavier does it; AGAIN

Well, Xavier did it again to us ( The Flyers) again tonight in Atlantic City. Tu Holloway and Mark Lyons are the best thing to happen to Xavier since David West. I can't feel bad for the Flyers, after self destructing a significant lead for the 2nd time in 3 years in AC, although losing tonights game makes me think back to five years ago tonight...

Lehman played Lockland in the District Final and had a 14 point lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter. By the time they got the ball past half court in the 4th quarter, Lockland trimed the lead to 9. I still feel for Doug Westerheide, Brent Schlater, Tony Reiss, Kevin Sargeant and Collin Kinsella. I still can't believe that Lehman lost that district final five years ago.

On this day in 2007, Lehman took on Botkins in the 2007 Division V Sectional at Piqua High School. Lehman crushed Botkins behind the play of Seniors Doug Westerheide, Kevin Sargeant and Brent Schlater and Sophomore Zac Schmitz.

Also on this day, Dayton hosted St. Louis on Senior night. The Flyers outlasted the Billikens in Double Overtime by 1. It was the final home game at UD Arena for Seniors Monty Scott, Nick Stafford, Junior Norman Plummer and Sophomore Desmond Adjedi
