Golf and the NCAA Tournament

It's hard to believe that its been a month since Kris Jenkins hit the game winning shot to win the National Championship. This year's NCAA Tournament was a blur. St. Louis was fun, seeing a #15 beat a #2 was awesome. Middle Tennessee State was a fun team to watch. To see Syracuse not only beat the Flyers, but to make it to the Final Four was amazing in itself. Jim Boeheim is going to get the best out of his players for the next few years. Every National Championship game should be that exciting. Golf. I feel for Jordan Speith and I know the kid will bounce back in a great way. As for me, after a nightmare first day in Naples, I turned the clock back with 4 spectacular rounds. I played some great golf in the Sunshine State, beat Dad, Tom and Stewy and then beat Dad and Stewy the last time and tied Tom.

Last night was so embarassing

I have been a Bengals fan my entire life. I have watched the losses mount: 31-17, 24-14, 31-10, 16-10, 27-10, 27-10 and 18-16. Last night was as low as you can go. It was a disgraceful display in the final 2:00 Minutes. I am hoping Marvin Lewis lives to see another year on the Bengals sideline, 5 straight playoff appearances, 6 in the last seven years and 7 in 10 years is pretty impressive. Four AFC North Division Championships is awesome, considering that this franchise was a laughing stock before Marvin got there. I will always bleed orange and black during the NFL season.

Update

It's been a while that I have posted on my sports blog. I think the Bengals can beat the 49ers tomorrow. I also think the Dayton Flyers will start a new winning streak at home tonight. It's hard to believe that a week ago, it was nice enough to get the golf clubs out of the closet in the garage and play twice last week. Has it been 20 years since the original Browns left Cleveland? Has it been 15 years since one of the greatest defense's of all time won a Super Bowl. Has it been 10 years since The Bengals won their first division title in 15 years.

25 years ago last night and tonight

On October 16, 1990. My Dad and I went to Game 1 of the World Series. The Cincinnati Reds were hosting the defending champion Oakland Athletics. Jose Rijo opposed Dave Stewart in Game 1. It was a great night and game. Eric Davis hit a two run home run in the 1st inning en route to 3 RBI on the night and Rijo pitched 7 innings of shut out baseball. The Reds won 7-0. I had so much fun being at the game with my Dad. I have the game on VHS, but have not watched it in quite some time. People would always ask me who would make every out in that game. If I was asked about that today, I would not know. On October 17, 1990, the Reds hosted Game 2. It went to extra innings and the Reds were faced with a pitching dilema. Tom Browning, who started Game 3, left the ball park and him and his wife celebrated the birth of Tucker Thomas Browning. In the 10th inning, Joe Oliver delivered the game winning hit off Hall of Fame closer Dennis Eckersley. On a family trip to Florida in 2007, I met Mr Oliver at the ESPN boardwalk and told him that he was one of my favorite Reds Catcher's I ever watched. I've been to a NBA Finals, NFL Playoff, NLDS, One game playoff, Final Four, Sweet 16, Elite Eight and a Major League All Star game.

The HASK Golf Scramble was a great success and its almost football season

I have played A lot of golf this summer. I have participated in a Monday night league and have really enjoyed it. Last Sunday, the 4th annual Holy Angels Soup Kitchen Golf Scramble raised $20,000. Another one of my favorites is coming up, NFL Season. Being the life of the party I am, I love watching games at the bars with friends and having some bevys and food that is not good for you. If I had my own place, I would have people over every Sunday to watch football.

10 years ago at this time... Spurs outlast Pistons in 7

It's been 10 years since Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli won their 2nd title together and Duncan his 3rd ring. They outlasted a Detroit Piston's team which had a awesome starting five; Chauncey Billups, Teyshaun Prince, Ben Wallace, Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace. This starting five was together for six years and was the reason the Pistons made six straight Conference Finals, bringing back the days of the Bad Boys of the late 80's into 1991. The series went back and fourth with the home teams winning the first four games. Robert Horry had things to say about who would win Game 5, as his 3 with 5 seconds left in overtime gave the Spurs a 1 point win and a 3-2 series lead. The Pistons would force a Game 7, but Duncan was too much in the 4th quarter as the Spurs won the title.

15 years ago tonight

The Lakers and Blazers were playing for the Western Conference Championship. These were the 2 best teams in the NBA that year. The Blazers had rallied from a 3-1 deficit to force a Game 7 in Los Angeles and looked like they were on there way to the Finals to host Indiana. The Lakers rallied behind Robert Horry, Brian Shaw, Rick Fox and Shaq. They overcame a 15 point 4th quarter deficit capped off by a alley oop from Kobe to Shaq. The Lakers would go on to win the championship beating the Pacers in six games and ending Larry Bird's coaching career.
