At this time 12 years ago

Twelve years ago, Mom, Dad, Eli and I went down to Cincinnati to meet Rick and Angie to watch the first two game of the Reds Cubs series at Cinergy Field. The Cubs jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the middle of the 9th inning. With one runner on base, Sean Casey was up to bat and was facing a two strike count. He then doubled off the right center field wall to put runners in scoring position. Cincinnati Native Barry Larkin came to the plate and hit the walk off double to bring both runners in. The crowd would chant “Barry Barry”.

The very next day, the Cubs would get the better of the Reds. The Cubs were lead by Benito Santiago’s two Home Runs and then Sammy Sosa came up in the top of the 7th inning and drilled a solo home run into the Red seats at Cinergy Field. With the Cubs leading the Reds 7-4 in the ninth inning, left fielder Greg Vaughn stepped up to the plate and nearly hit a game tying three run home run, but he missed it by 10 feet. The Cubs held on for a 7-4 win. I remember that night, The Lumsden’s, Mom, Dad, Eli and I went to the Revolving Restaurant in Cincinnati to have dinner and Benito Santiago was there eating dinner that night. It was a fun filled weekend.
