To me, this is Kentucky's best team since 1996. Rick Pitino was the Head Coach. Their Starting Five was Antoine Walker, Derek Anderson, Walter McCarty, Anthony Epps and Tony Delk. Four of the five got drafted by the NBA. They swept the SEC and won the National Championship by beating Syracuse in the Final, thanks to Tony Delk's 24 points and 7 three pointers and 20 points from Ron Mercer.
The 2003 team was good as well. Keith Bogans, Jules Camera, Marquis Estill, Cliff Hawkins and Gerald Fitch. That team was spectacular on the defensive end. Bogans was the SEC player of the year and that team swept the SEC, won the tournament championship at the Superdome. In the regional semi against Wisconsin, there season turned upside down, Keith Bogans sprained his ankle and waiting for them in the regional final was Dwayne Wade and Marquette, who bounced Kentucky from the Tournament and advanced to the final four.
Seven years and two head coaches later, John Calipari came to Lexington. He brought a new attitude and a Pitino like style. He has recruited relentlessly in the three years he has been there. John Wall, Brandon Knight and Marcus Teague. I like how Calipari has brought a new way of winning to Lexington. Kentucky fans have waited fourteen years for this moment. This is Kentucky's time. GO BIG BLUE.
