My sports related regrets... Mulligans I wish I can have

Every week on the golf channel, David Feherty has his Feherty show and one of the questions he asks his guests, "Do you have any mulligans in your life you wish you can have" I have not one, but two sports related mulligans I wish can have: Growing up, I loved sports more than anything else in life. I wanted to be a sports broadcaster when I was a kid. I used to imagine myself being the next Dan Patrick, Stuart Scott, Keith Olberman, Larry Beil. In the summer of 2001 at the age of 20, I was considering giving something else a try. I was taking a writing class in the summer and at the time i did not really care for that and as I was going through that fall semester, it was time to pick a major and I felt it was time to go in a different direction. You are 20 years old, you have your whole life in front of you, no one was saying to me, "just think about this when you are in your 30's working in a warehouse wishing you were living your childhood dream". I decided to change paths and go towards Business Management. For the next few years, my passion for sports stayed the same. People would always say to me they think I should go into broadcasting. In the summer of 2010 while at my previous job, my co-workers thought I should have gone into broadcasting. I got the itch back to want to pursue my childhood dream. Little did I know, Health Insurance is so significant to our every day life. There has not been a day in the last 9 years where I wish i could go back to November of 2001 to have more time to reconsider that choice. This is my 2nd mulligan: I was 15 years old. It was a Saturday in February of 1997. My parents and I were eating dinner at Red Lobster in Piqua. My Dad was sitting across from the table from me and mid way through the dinner he asked me this question: "How would you like to go to all the baseball stadiums". I was humbled and flattered to be asked that. I recall saying "i don't know", my Mom was was saying, "what do you mean, you don't know, you are the big sports fan". Now, one thing Dad did not say at this time was, "we would go to two cities a year for the next several years. At the time, i thought we were going to do this all in one baseball season and I did not want to spend a lot of time away from home. I turned the offer down. When you are 15 years old you don't think about things like "Just remember this in your late 30's" Do I wish i can take it back today, YES! One thing my Mom or Dad did not say in 1997, "Just remember this in your late 30's when you want to reconsider this". Of all the baseball stadiums I have not been to that I would like to go to and I believe there are a few of them: Denver, Seattle, Phoenix, Baltimore, DC, Atlanta, San Diego, Philly, Pittsburgh. I am not crazy about the Florida Stadiums, the Texas Stadiums. The Twins and Royals, I would like to go to the NYC stadiums, but I won't lose sleep over it. Would I have liked to go to Candlestick Park, the Kingdome, The old NYC Stadiums, Astrodome, Pro Player Stadium, yes, but it hasn't bothered me too much. My 13 year old nephew is going to go to all the NFL Stadiums with his Dad and that made me reconsider this. I am happy for Kenny that he is doing this.

Looking forward to working on my golf game

The calendar has turned to June. Its time to focus on the golf game. I am not playing in a league this year, which is something I am fine with. This weekend I am going to Columbus and playing at a few courses. One day with my cousin and Uncle, one day with a buddy from work and a family friend, one day with Dad. When I play at home, I usually walk. Love getting my exercise this way.

Michigan vs Ohio State football

Last night, May 1, 2019, I watched Michigan football classic on the B1G Network. It was the Michigan Ohio State game from 2003, one of the last great moments for Michigan in the storied rivalry. Sometimes I wonder when Michigan's next victory against the Buckeyes will come. I am a Michigan fan!. 3-17 is frustrating in every sense of the word. I feel bad for all the Michigan football players who have NEVER beat the Buckeyes. I cheered for the Buckeyes from 2005-10 and it didn't feel right to me. I will say this, Ohio State had no business losing to Rich Rod when he was Michigan's coach, I am a bit surprised that two of the games, both that were in Columbus were scoreless after the first quarter. I remember Jeff O'Korn's press conference after the 2017 game, that was 3-16 in a nutshell. I felt bad. When the Buckeyes blocked the punt in the 2nd half and returned it for a touchdown this past year, that was the Maize and Blue's misery in a nut shell. One of these years, Drew Henson is going to be replaced as the last Michigan QB to win in the shoe. Urban Meyer was a awesome coach, hope retirement from coaching treats him well and I respect him for not running up the score and going for 70 last year. Michigan HAS TO win this game again at some point, it needs to be a more competitive rivalry, not one sided. I went to Lehman Catholic High School and Edison Community College. Their school colors were blue and yellow. My oldest niece is a Ohio State grad and I respect that! I cheered for Ohio State from 2005-10 when they played in Michigan in football and it did not feel natural to me. I did not like who I was doing it. I am willing to bet, if you were to ask any one of the Michigan football players who played for Michigan in the last 7 years. Regardless if they were in the NFL, married with a wife and kids or working for a fortune 500 company, I am willing to bet, they would give any of those things to have one victory against Ohio State. I was not a Michigan fan when they lost to App State in 2007, why am I today, it feels right. Blue and yellow looks better than scarlet and gray. Hail to the victors sounds better than Hang on sloopy.

Congrats Coach Meyer

Tonight marked the end for a Coaching legend. Urban Meyer. For him to go 7-0 against The Ohio State's archrival is pretty darn good. It's just unfortunate that I am a Michigan fan. I cheered for the Buckeyes from 2005-10 and I did not like who I was doing it. Its funny, I am a Michigan fan and don't know the names of their football team, but know the Buckeyes players names. I would like to see Michigan get more dominant in football. I don't think Harbaugh is going anywhere, despite being 0-4 and 1-3 in big games. Ohio State can't win every year. No Rose Bowls since 2007, No Big Ten titles since 2004. C'mon Maize and Blue, take notice, don't you want to be dominant again.
