On this night in Detroit Sports History... 50 years of misery comes to an end

I am not a hockey fan or guru, but I have a lot of family who lives in Michigan and they are die-hard Detroit Red Wings Fans and I know they will enjoy reading this piece.

On this day in 1997, The Detroit Red Wings were one win away from winning their first Stanley Cup in 50 years. Standing in their way was Eric Lindros and the Philadelphia Flyers. The Red Wings jumped out to a 3-0 series lead thanks to Goalie Mike Vernon, Steve Yzerman, Darrin McCarty, Sergi Federov. The Red Wings would defeat the Flyers 2-1, ending a 50 year draught. The Red Wings have won 3 Stanley Cups since 1997. It was a great scene at a family wedding reception in Dearborn, Michigan
